Refuge Atlas is not emergency services, not insurance, not engineering certification, and not a substitute for guidance from local authorities. In an emergency, follow the instructions of emergency management officials, not this website. If those instructions conflict with anything here, follow the officials.
Models are models
Every figure on this site is produced by a published model applied to public data. Models simplify. Our method page lists the limitations we know about, ranked by how much they matter, and names the things we deliberately refuse to model. A protection factor estimate is not a structural certification. A route time is not a guarantee. A livability score is an opinion expressed in arithmetic.
Third-party data
Hazard readings come from public feeds published by USGS, NOAA, NASA JPL and GDACS and are reproduced with attribution. Those agencies do not endorse, review or sponsor Refuge Atlas. If a feed is wrong or offline, our number is wrong or missing, and we show feed coverage on the risk page so you can see when that happens.
Affiliate disclosure
Some links in the gear section are affiliate links, meaning we may earn a commission if you buy through them. Items are ordered by expected value per dollar, not by commission, and some recommended items carry no affiliate link at all. We say which ones on the page.
Payments, refunds and cancellation
Planner is a one-time purchase with no recurring charge. Prepared carries a one-time setup fee plus a recurring subscription which you may cancel at any time; cancellation stops future charges and does not refund the current period. If a purchase does not do what this site said it would, email hello@refugeatlas.com within 30 days and we will refund it.
Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, Refuge Atlas is provided as is, and our total liability arising from your use of it is limited to the amount you paid us in the preceding twelve months. We are not liable for decisions you make based on this tool.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Indiana, United States.
